Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 25 minutes
Servings: 16 tablespoons

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup jelly grape or apple
  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for heat

Method

  1. Combine the ketchup, jelly, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper in a medium saucepan. Add cayenne if desired.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors meld.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning — add more vinegar for tang or more jelly for sweetness.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.
  6. For a smoother texture, blend with an immersion blender. Transfer to a jar and use immediately or refrigerate.

Notes

Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Use grape jelly for classic sweetness or peach preserves for a fruitier depth. Add cayenne for heat. Brush on meat in the last 10 minutes of grilling to prevent burning.
